A Bichrome Ware Cypriot amphora dating to the Cypro-Geometric or Cypro-Archaic period, 1050-600 BCE.
The interior with of the neck is decorated with a broad red band, while the exterior is painted to the twin vertical double ribbed handles. The neck and shoulder each have a frieze of concentric circles, with a broad horizontal black band between. There is an ochre painted horizontal line centred over circles, a broad red band between, and black bands on body. There is a red band over the lower body and foot. The amphora has a height of 225mm.
The amphora is on display as part of the ‘Cypriot Pottery of the Bronze and Iron Ages’ exhibition of the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, and is on loan from the Peter Mitrakas and Mary Ann Savas collection.
