Cytochrome c (cyt c) is a small hydrophilic mobile electron carrier and plays an important role in the electron transport chain (ETC). It contains a heme group and can transport one electron at a time. Cyt c slides across the top of the mitochondrial inner membrane to deliver electrons from Complex III to IV.
