蓮の花、お堀にある

その日は9月のわりには暑い土曜日だった。秋田市千秋公園（秋田藩の久保田城跡）の堀に沢山の蓮の花が植えられている。真夏ほど蒸し暑くなく、しかし日差しは強い。そのような日にこの花を見つけた。 花びらを触ると、つぼみは空気を含んでふわふわとしている。花びらはしっかりと厚みがあり、花の大きさは拳よりも一回り大きい。堀の蓮の花の半分ほどは、すでに花が咲き終わりれんこんの形になっており、半分は蕾か、花が開いていた。

It was a hot Saturday, even for September. A lot of lotus flowers were planted in the moat of Senshu Park in Akita City (the site of Kubota Castle of the Akita Clan). It was not as hot and humid as mid-summer, but the sun was strong. It was on such a day that I found this flower. When I touched the petals, the buds were airy and fluffy. The petals were firm and thick, and the size of the flower was larger than my fist. About half of the lotus flowers in the moat had already finished blooming and were in the shape of a lotus root, and half were either buds or open flowers.
