Dalongdong Baoan Temple, located at Dalongdong, Taipei, Taiwan, was established in 1742. The name “Baoan (保安)” means “protecting the people from Tongan (同安)”, a county in Fujian from which the early immigrants at Dalongdong were originated. The temple worships Baosheng Dadi, a Deity of Medicine. The architecture nowadays was refitted in 1917 in the form of “Duichangzuo (對場作)”, meaning “opponent construction”, where two groups of architects were invited to construct the two halves of the architecture (usually the left and right parts). A couplet tournament was also held across Taiwan, and the winning works were carved on the columns in the temple. In 2003, Dalongdong Baoan Temple received UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation, and then became a national cultural heritage of Taiwan in 2018.
