This is a Diamondback Rattlesnake sleeping in the middle of a remote archaeological rockart site in the Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest in north central Arizona just outside of Sedona.
This is a mature snake just over 4 feet long. You will note that he has eaten within the previous several days. He was sleeping and trying to warm up in the cool weather but woke up and was less than friendly when moved so we could continue photo acquistion for 3D documentation of the site.
