Copy of a statue of the river god Danuvius. In the spa garden Bad Deutsch-Altenburg is the “Pfaffenberg” gallery with copies and replicas of archaeological stone monuments of Pfaffenberg. The roman inhabitants of Carnuntum had expanded the Pfaffenberg to their mountain of gods. Following the example of the Capitol in Rome, they built a place of pilgrimage with three Jupiter temples, columns of Jupiter, emperor statues, hundreds of altars and other buildings. By the initiative of the former mayor Ernest Windholz faithful replicas of momuments of the Pfaffenberg in Bad German Altenburg were set up.
Inscription on the pedestal: DANUVIUS - THE DANUBE WITH A LENGTH OF MORE THAN 2000 KILOMETERS WAS THE BOARDER OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE IN EUROPE. ALONG THE RIVER, THE ROMANS BUILT THE DANUBE-LIMES. CARNUNTUM WAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MILITARY BASES.
