The Deer Lodge Warden Cabin was built in 1904 by Reuben Gable, who was among the first game wardens in what was then known as the Yoho Park Reserve (now Yoho National Park). Its purpose was to house game wardens while patrolling the backcountry. A permanent warden was eventually assigned to the cabin following the First World War. The heritage value of the Deer Lodge Warden Cabin stems from the role it played in supporting an inaugeral system of game guardianship within the park. The cabin is constructed of peeled logs and has a gabled roof and extended porch gable. The building was restored in 1961 by Parks Canada. Wardens feature prominantly in the history of Canada’s National Parks, and the digital preservation of Deer Lodge Cabin will help ensure their legacy is not forgotten. The cabin was digitally captured in April, 2024. Zoom inside the point cloud to view the cabin’s interior. The exterior of the cabin was captured using a Z+F 5010X Scanner, while a Leica BLK 360 was used to scan the interior.
