Mural memorial commemorating John Alexander Dekewer and his sister Mary Dekewer, located on the north wall of the north nave aisle of St Peter the Apostle Church, Broadstairs. Neoclassical mural monument is a refined example of early 19th-century memorial sculpture in marble. The monument combines sculptural sentiment with architectural clarity, framed against a black marble pyramidal backing. At its apex sits a finely modelled mourning cherub leaning upon an urn—an emblem of grief and mortality that became a hallmark of Regency funerary art. Below, the white marble inscription panel is enclosed within a moulded frame with simple pilaster strips and scroll consoles, resting on a projecting shelf. The base features a winged cherub head with acanthus ornament, uniting the design with earlier Baroque traditions but executed here in a more restrained and delicate idiom.
