Trawler Delphin was built in Germany in 1906. The ship that was initially used as a fishing trawler was requisitioned into the service of the German Navy in August 1914. In 1917, the Delphin was assigned to the 2nd anti-submarine fleet that took part of the operation Albion, also known as the Tagalahe landing, during which the West-Estonian islands were occupied. The landing started on 10 October 1917 when the first group of the German fleet (minesweepers, destroyers, auxiliary vessels) departed from Liepaja. This group was meant to clear the way for the battle and transport ships to pass the big minefields laid by the Germans west of Saaremaa. On 14 October 1917, the minesweeper Delphin hit a mine near Hiiumaa and sank. The lives of 20 men were lost.
