I took a pillar in a sand pile surrounded with brick half wall and try not to replicate it from the reference picture to perfection but to take the overall design and apply my knowledge in texture creation which is not so much to further explore new techniques and tools in substance painter. I started with the basic block out from maya and sculpted the surface damage and main shape of the pillar and rebar pieces. I then decimated the high res to a low res mesh and thew both of them into substance painter to bake out the mesh maps. From there I painted in the basic details using pre-made texture found from the substance share sight to fill in the walls and ground. The pillar was a combination of 3 textures. The inner pillar was of a concrete texture with a high normal map output. The second was a finer concrete texture and then on top was the paint layer. I took black masks and generators with the curvature map to make the damage on the surface and to blend the layers of damage.
