More model informationBone, England, 300-399AD Dice are a relatively common find on Roman sites. They were used for a wide variety of games including Duodecim Scripta (or The Twelve Line Game), a predecessor to modern backgammon. This is a standard 6 sided die with the numbers marked using ‘ring and dot’ decoration rather than simple dots. It was found on the mosaic at Lullingstone; supporting the theory that the room was used for entertaining as well as functioning as a dining room. The Romans did not just use standard cubic dice like this. Others have been found with between 4 and 20 sides, as well as cubic dice with different number combinations on the sides.
