Recognizing the volatility of the Covid-19 situation, I designed a device that combines the long-term use of gamma irradiance to inactivate coronaviruses for vaccine development with the short-term use of VUV (Vacuum Ultraviolet) light to disinfect household items. By sterilizing the device’s nearby surfaces and purifyingthe air with its HEPA (high-efficiency particulate absorbing) filters, pneumatic valves, and dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), widespread use of the device is expected to alleviate the strain on manpower and resources required to ensure good air quality and hygiene in public spaces.

The prototype and the report were submitted for Phase A of Engineering Innovation Challenge 2021 (Singapore) in which I eventually won the second place. For Phase C, I submitted the design “X-ray COVID Terminator”.
