Dinas Dinlle Roundhouse 1024, Excavations 20213D ModelNoAI
Dinas Dinlle hillfort overlooks the sea from its perch on an isolated hill of glacial drift on the edge of the northern Llŷn coastal plain. The fort, thought to be of late prehistoric origin, would have originally been defended by two earth ramparts with a deep ditch in between. Severe erosion has removed all traces on the seaward side but the defences are still visible from the south, east and north.
Following on from Gwynedd Archaeological Trust’s 2019 evaluation excavations (funded by the CHERISH Project), further excavation work was carried out during August/September 2021.
This programme of excavation was undertaken by GAT with grant aid from, and in collaboration with Cadw, the National Trust, the CHERISH project and the Sustainable Development Fund (administered by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty Llŷn).
The project was run as a community excavation with supervision from GAT staff.
This 3D model shows the roundhouse excavated in trench 1.
