二枚貝のように見えるが、巻貝である。アワビの中でも高級食材とされる。

殻の裏側には非常に美しい真珠光沢があり、螺鈿細工などの工芸材料に用いる。

Although it looks like a bivalve, it is actually a snail shell. It is considered a luxury food among abalones.

The underside of the shell has a beautiful pearly luster, and is used as a material for crafts such as mother-of-pearl inlay.
