Distribution of iron in SN 1987A at day 7303D ModelNoAI
Distribution of iron-rich ejecta in the remnant of supernova (SN) 1987A at day 730 after the outburst. The isosurfaces of the iron distribution (blue) are given for three different models: a) N16.3 (on the left) a SN from a progenitor blue supergiant evolved from a single star; b) B18.3 (at the center), a SN from a blue supergiant resulting from the merging of two massive stars; c) S19.8 (on the right) a SN from a red supergiant. The semi-transparent isosurfaces correspond to a value of the iron density which is at 10% of the peak density for each model. The semi-transparent planes mark the plane of the dense equatorial ring characterizing the circumstellar medium aroud SN 1987A. The yardstick indicating the length scale is on the left.
