Dodo foot (NHMW-ZOO-VS 97063)3D Model
3D scan of a plaster cast of a dodo foot, which was brought from London to Vienna by Johann Natterer. Due to their life on an island ecosystem, dodos were not exposed to larger predators and evolved a complete absence of fear of humans, which made them easy prey and led to their extinction within 100 years after their discovery in 1598 by a Dutch fleet led by Van Warwjick.
The cast can be found in Hall 31 of the NHM Vienna.
It was digitized for the go!digital 3.0 project bITEM.
