Glycimeris in the DISTAV palaeontology collection (University of Genova) Glycimeris is an extinct genus of bivalve mollusks that thrived during the Pliocene epoch, approximately 5.3 to 2.6 million years ago. This genus is characterized by its thick, sturdy shells and distinctive hinge structure, which allowed it to burrow into sandy or muddy substrates in shallow marine environments. Fossils of Glycimeris have been found in various coastal deposits, providing insights into the diversity of marine life during the Pliocene. This specimen was retrieved from the deposits underneath the historical city centre of Genova and was then donated to the University.
This model was realized by Glenda Cantale during the Universal Civil Service (SCU) at the Genoa University.
