English: In an attempt to fly to the North Pole in 1925, Amundsen used two Dornier Wal flying boats. The expedition ended in the ice near 88 degrees north. After a long battle, the crew managed to get one aircraft airborne and back home. Neither of the flying boats were preserved, but fortunately, Amundsen saved this model he received from the Dornier factory before departure.
