The dorsal column pathway carry impulses with information regarding proprioception (the sense of ‘position’, which tells you where your limbs are) and discriminative touch (light touch).
The dorsal columns contain the axons of primary afferent neurons, nerve cells travelling towards the brain, that have entered the spinal cord through the dorsal roots of spinal nerves.
This model was created by Melissa Hendry in 2023 as part of her studies at the University of Edinbugh. The research project was supervised by Dr Stephen J Maclean, Lecturer in Anatomy, University of Edinburgh (s.j.maclean@ed.ac.uk; Staff Profile). The model was created using Blender.
This model forms part of a wider project under the Edinburgh ATLAS Facility, overseen by Dr Jennifer Paxton (staff profile) and Victoria McCulloch (staff profile).
