“Saint Basil the Great” Wooden Church of Dragu, Sălaj County Structure ID: EWAP1026LG-STR-008-DRA
The church was constructed using horizontal wooden beams with dovetail joints on a scarce stone foundation. The plan is composed of narthex, nave and recessed sanctuary, with a double-sided porch on the southern and western sides. The access portal is located on the southern side and is richly sculpted with various motifs such as the wheel, the rope, the cross and other solar symbols. Each of the rooms is painted with religious scenes typical for the regional iconography, a the remarkable feature is the iconostasis with its rich painted and sculpted work. Another remarkable architectural feature is the large tower above the narthex with its sharp roof and four spires. Due to it being constructed in an orchard west of the village, the church is now mostly abandoned and had its massive bronze bell stolen and narthex ceiling destroyed as a consequence of recently being broken into.
