Dun Ban, Isle of Barra, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
Dun Ban is situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Dun Ban is considered to be a broch dating from c.200BC- 600AD. The broch/dun is further protected by a substantial wall running across the promontory. A further slight wall or line of boulders lies outside the substantial wall forming another enclosure. The broch structure is subcircular with a diameter of c.18metres, internal diameter of 4 metres. Tumbled stones have been removed to show the outside wall stands to a height of just 1.2 metres, although some of this wall looks to be restored. The interior of the broch shows exposed bedrock to a height above much of the surrounding walls which makes you wonder how substantial the site once was and whether stones have been robbed.
