More model informationHistorical records disagree whether the Dunderberg was spelled with a “berg” or “burg” and whether it was a schooner or a barkentine. There does appear to be a yard on the foremast but whether that was for a square foresail or topsail is difficult to tell. The 172 ft ship was built in 1867 and only sailed one year before being sunk in a collision with the steamer Empire off Harbor Beach, MI in Lake Huron. The shipwreck is a popular dive site and is one of the few Great Lakes shipwrecks which still has a figurehead which is visible on the model under the bowsprit. The model was created from 3,808 30 megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman on two DPV dives.
