More model informationThe monument includes a medieval cross, mounted incongruously on top of an early Christian memorial stone situated at the south-east entrance to the churchyard of St Meubred, Cardinham. The inscribed stone is probably of 6th century date but had been re-used as a buttress for the churchyard wall. Its inscription is extremely worn and only a small number of letters can be made out. The cross, probably a headstone in origin, may be of the 13th century; it was found built into the wall of the church. The two were united in the late 19th century, in the process trimming the inscribed stone to fit the dimensions of the cross.
