Ecclesia and Synagoga3D Model
3D model of the allegorical figures of Ecclesia (“Church”) and Synagoga (“Synagogue”). Dated to 1220 CE, these medieval sculptures originally adorned the south-eastern portal of the Strasbourg Cathedral. Today, these have been replaced by replicas and the originals (of which this 3D model is based from) is housed in the adjacent Musée de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame.
A common motif in medieval religious art, the figure of Ecclesia is depicted as triumphant with a crown, a chalice, and a staff surmounted by a cross. Meanwhile, Synagoga is depicted as blindfolded with a broken lance and the two tablets of the Law of Moses.
