Edgefield Pottery Collection 63 - Marked Stacker3D Model
A stacker jug from the Edgefield Pottery Collection. This jug was made in the late 1800s by Mark Baynham, son of J.G. Baynham. The Baynhams operated a pottery manufacturing company which produced all kinds of stoneware jugs. Mark Baynham worked under his father in the facility until he left to fight in the Spanish-American War (1898). After returning, he started his own pottery business in North Augusta, S.C. Since this piece was found in Edgefield, it was likely made prior to the Spanish-American War.
The Edgefield Pottery Collection is a collection of historic vessels with a variety of shapes, sizes, forms, and uses. A jigger mold was used to quickly mass produce these Albany-Slipware style stackers and jugs. The vessels in the Edgefield Pottery Collection did not pass their quality inspection when they were made and were discarded into a ‘waster pile’. This jug was donated to the SCDNR Heritage Trust Program by Dr. Michael D. Fulford in 2022.
