Edward is one of the kindest and wisest engines on the Island of Sodor. Though older than many of the other engines, he is hardworking, reliable, and gentle. Edward often acts as a peacemaker and mentor, especially to the younger engines like Thomas and Percy. He doesn’t boast or seek attention, but always proves himself through steady work and quiet determination. Edward was one of the first engines to arrive on Sodor and has been with the North Western Railway from the very beginning. Despite being older and sometimes treated as “past his prime” by engines like Gordon, Edward consistently shows he still has “plenty of steam.” He often takes on odd jobs, assists with heavy loads when others fail, and proves time and again that age is no limit to usefulness.
