Statue fragment of Amenhotep III3D Model
Culture: Egyptian Material: Basalt Accession No: TB 003 Current Location: The Hunt Museum Limerick Portrait like sculpture of a lower half of a basalt head. The top, back and ears are missing. The left eye survives as the lower frame. The features are soft and rounded with a large round tipped nose and closed lips. Below the location of the left ear is a protruding sub-square lobe which may be the remains of hair or headdress. The base of the head is broken so it’s difficult to assess whether this may once have been part of a larger figurative statue. Egypt, 11th or 12th dynasty or a modern piece that took inspiration from statues of Amenhotep III from the Middle Kingdom (http://n2t.net/ark:/99152/p03wskdgq4n).
