More model informationEl Hammami is an ordinary chondrite (H5) that was found in 1997 near Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania. As with many meteorites from North West Africa, nomads collect meteorites from remote desert regions and introduce them to collectors and science. Stones were allegedly collected after a fireball was seen in January 1995. Additional stones were collected at the base of the El Hammami Mountains in Mauritania, which appeared to be from a fresh fall. The meteorite was classified as an ordinary chondrite (H) with shock stage S2 with a petrologic type 5/6. This meteorite is also known under the unofficial names Mhamid and Hamada du Draa.
