More model informationThis molar was 3D scanned at the New York State Museum on May 31, 2018 using a Go!Scan 50. It was identified as a mammoth molar from Kirkdale Cave in England, which was excavated in the 1820s by William Buckland. When an image of this scanned molar was placed on social media, noted researcher Dick Mol stated that this was actually an elephant molar. To resolve this discrepancy, Dr. Robert Feranec of the New York State Museum had the molar radiocarbon dated and this confirmed that the molar is that of an elephant. The radiocarbon assay is 225 +/- 15 yr BP and Dr. Feranec suspects that this is a circus or zoo elephant. Courtesy of the New York State Museum.
