1st week of development of embryo ends with beginning of implantation.

The outer layer of trophoblast begins to differentiate into cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast.

The syncytiotrophoblast is first seen near the embryonic pole of the developing embryo. The syncytiotrophoblast (blue colour) invades the endomterium of uterus. The inner cell mass (embryoblast) is separated from the blastocystic cavity by formation of hypoblast.
