Carrière d’Emerchicourt, front de taille permettant d’observer le contact entre le tuffeau de Valenciennes (faciès landénien d’âge Thanétien) et la craie coniacienne. Ce contact traduit une lacune sédimentaire de près de 20 Ma. Tuffeau de Valenciennes (sables fins glauconieux consolidés et transformés en grès de faible densité, âge 56 Ma) Craie coniacienne (calcaire friable composée de coccolithes âge 90 Ma) La craie très friable abrite “la nappe de la craie” qui affleure à certains endroits donnant ces lacs d’une couleur bleutée. Cette nappe affleurante est soumise aux problèmes de pollution.
