Erikbreen in the northern Spitsbergen stands out from its neighbours, as it is thought to be in balance with the current climate. This is likely because its unusually high drop in elevation from the accumulation area to its front, increasing its response time significantly. The glacier experienced very little retreat over the 1900s, but has in later years retreated into its more confined valley.

The model is made from 21 oblique aerial photographs taken by Norsk Polarinstitutt, whereby 13 are from 1938 and the rest are from 1936.
