This carving is housed in the Ulster Museum and was recorded by Megan Kasten with kind permission from Niamh Baker. The carving was located in St. Matthews Church, Ballynasaggart on the Favour Royal estate it is assocaited with Errigal Keeroge. The Archaeoligcal Survey of Northern Ireland lists the figure as a ‘Grotesque Female Figure - Sheela-na-Gig’. reported from Ballygawley; thought to be from Errigal Keerogue. A very unattractive example of its (unpleasant) kind. On the contary this example is a perfect depiction of a female exhibitionist figure in the Irish style. The unsual proportion displaying a contorted almost strained look of the figure. The head is recto-oval with a rectangular nose and oval eyes. There is no neck and the shoulders are raised. The right arm extends forward over the vulva; and the left backwards and under. The features are well preserved showing faint ribs and long pendulum breasts. The feet appear to point out but are broken.
