The model chosen is a plumeria flower, also known as frangipani. Plumeria is indigenous to Mexico and Central America, but it has spread widely to tropical areas of the world. In tropical environments, frangipani flowers throughout the year. The colours of frangipani flowers include shades of white, yellow, pink, red and multiple pastels.
The frangipani flower chosen is a tricolour frangipani. Its petals are light pink at the edges, transitioning to white, and then blending towards yellow in the center. The sample was collected at the frangipani tree under Block 19A of North Hill Hall at Nanyang Technological University. To ensure that the sample remains relatively unchanged during the modelling period, a fresh flower which is still firm and does not have too many brown spots is picked.
