The Cenotaph is one of three memorials at Esplanade Park gazetted collectively as a National Monument. Constructed in 1920, it commemorates the military personnel who fought and sacrificed their lives in both World Wars. Standing at nearly 60 feet (18 metres) tall with a sarcophagus at the top, the imposing structure is a poignant reminder of the bravery of the soldiers and honours their contributions to the defence of Singapore.
