The wooden sculpture installed in front of the Jakob & David preschool in Ernstbrunn was created by Weinviertel-based sculptor Harry Raab and features the owl as a symbol of knowledge, attentiveness, and learning. Carved from a single tree trunk, the work depicts a large owl as the central figure, watching over several smaller owls in a protective manner. In the lower section, a young owl sits in front of the adult owl’s body, while in the upper part, additional owls peek out from a tree hollow. The motif continues on the back as well: there, additional owls and carved details have been incorporated, allowing the sculpture to be viewed from all sides and revealing new elements with each viewing. The striking eyes, the powerful lines, and the natural shape of the tree trunk give the work its distinctive character. The depiction of an owl family creates a connection to the kindergarten, symbolizing security, community, and the children’s shared learning experience.
