This is a hand excavated 1 x 17 meter test trench at the Tremaine Site (47LC95) near Holmen, Wisconsin. It was excavated Oct 20-21, 2018 by students from the ARC196 Introduction to Archaeological Field and Lab Methods course in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Archaeological Studies Program. Each fall new archaeologiy students (freshman and transfers) take part in this weekend excavation experience. Shadows were very bad because of the low angle of the sun in Wisconsin in October
The Tremaine Site is an Native American Oneota Culture village site dating to ca. A.D. 1300-1600. Several pit features as well as the edge of a former excavation area were identified in the trench.
