F Book Treasure Binding

This F Book was created by Emily Brooks for the 2019-2020 University of Florida academic calendar. For the front cover, the four corners that usually represent the gospels in historic treasure bindings (tetramorph) have been replaced with a Florida orange (fire opal), the Florida state outline (crystal shimmer), a Florida Gator (fern green), and a blue Morpho butterfly (Bermuda blue) made with Swarovski crystals. The edges are designed using blue and orange crystal rivets to create a winding helical structure to visually reference DNA. The central F is repoussed on a 6” x 6” sheet of .625 sterling silver. The crystal rivets affix the silver to the imitation suede-covered boards. Inside, the endpapers are handmade blue paper with additional orange endsheets. The text block is 100% cotton white paper, sewn with a modified kettle stitch binding, with silver gilt edges.
