FAO90 1879 Scapula Multiple Myeloma

The individual FAO90 1879 is a male with an age category of 36 - 45 years old. From macroscopic analysis of the skeletal elements present, he exhibited lesions indicative of multiple myeloma, osteoarthritis of his elbow joints and a type of fusion in his thoracic vertebrae, on the right anterior side of the vertebral bodies identified as Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) The skeletal remains of this male were revealed during archaeological excavations in response to a development in Farringdon Street in 1990 in an area which had been part of the Lower Churchyard of St Bride’s in Farringdon. The area excavated revealed over 600 individuals of which 544 were possible to fully analyse osteologically. The date range for the area of the churchyard excavated is 1770 - 1849 and makes up one of the Metropolitan Industrial skeletal collections included in the Impact Project.
