This is a side by side presentation of how 3D scanning technology is able to reveal ‘hidden’ details in ancient artifacts.
On the left is the coin as seen in ‘real life’ with centuries of exposure obscuring the original imagery. The surface is very dull in lustre and it is difficult to see much detail.
On the right is the coin rendered with a flat color texture. It is much easier to view all of the intricate details and contours that still remain on the surface of the coin.
