Feal Broch, Fetlar 3D Model
Feal Broch, Fetlar, Shetland Isles, Scotland.
This broch has a lot in common with most other broch sites, in that it is in poor condition. Removal of stone for reuse elseshere in the 19th Century revealed the remains of a broch and outbuildings. All that survives now is a turf covered mound pockmarked with hollows where stone has been removed. You can just see the internal shape of the broch by the shape of a hollow and a few stone protruding through the grass.
The model helps show the shape of the site and the poor preservation of an outer rampart.
Despite the poor condition of the site on the surface there is likely to still be a lot of complex archaeology buried here.
3D model derived from vertical kite aerial photographs.
