Photogrammetry - Female colossal head : Junon3D Model
Late first century AD. Vienna, Sainte-Blandine Hill. Marble of Thasos. Sister and wife of Jupiter, Juno is the queen of the gods and the sky. Protector of women, she symbolizes marriage when she is covered with veils and associated with fertility when she carries a pomegranate. It evokes youth and vital force and presides over the initiation of young girls. It extends its action to the fruits of the earth and promotes harvests. Her head is here covered with the stéphané (crown in the shape of a raised visor, composed of a strip of fabric) which encircles her hair divided into two headbands. The marble from Thasos in which it is carved was particularly used at Ephesus. This imposing statue could be the work of a Viennese artist from Asia Minor. The settling of the face is intended to correct the perspective from the point of view of the spectator placed at the foot of this statue of about five meters high. This head of Juno could come from the temple located at the top of the Sainte-Blandine hill.
