More model informationThe épée is the heaviest of the three modern Olympic fencing weapons. It’s most distinct component is its large bell guard, which protects the hand. Unlike saber and foil, épée fencers are able to target the entirety of their opponent’s body, there are no right-of-way or priority rules, and double-touches are allowed. This results in épée being the slowest and most methodical of the three weapons, as it forces the fencers to be more defensive and cautious. This épée uses a Belgian grip, a unique style of pistol grip that is smoother than other styles, but includes a longer than average prong between the middle and ring fingers.
