Ferenc Kölcsey (1790-1838) wrote poetry and essays influenced by the Enlightenment and Romanticism. He was a founding member of the Kisfaludy Society and wrote the text of the Hungarian national anthem as a poem with the subtitle A magyar nép zivataros századaiból “From the stormy centuries of the Hungarian people”. Kölcsey was a member of parliament from 1832 to 1834.
