Scaly & polygonal structures, superimposed on low-relief mud ripples, on the base of a sandstone bed. Such surfaces have been termed ‘dinosaur leather’
Three-dimensional, low relief mud ripples, covered with dominantly polygonal structures. The whole surface is covered with these structures, leading to a past desrciption of ‘dinosaur leather’ for these FIDS.
Carboniferous Crackington Formation, Hartland Quay, North Devon UK. (50.99756 -4.53018)
The bedding plane is c. 5.76m long x 2.45m wide.
