3D Data Visualization and Plume Analysis. The NDA project consisted of 3 discharge lagoons with capacities ranging from 350,000 to 1.5 million gallons. A subsurface aeration basin and 2 large buried waste disposal pits were also present. Characterization efforts included 300 borings, 667 analytical samples, 752 visual observations of oil presence, and lithologic logs. MVS was chosen to provide decision support via a 3D “visual database” of sample results as field efforts progressed so that additional sampling locations and boring depths needed to delineate plumes could be minimized (Figs 2 and 3).
