Figure of an Angel 18h c. Unknown Sculptor Angels form one of the most numerous sculptural groups used by folk artists in their works. Figures of angels were a decorative element of iconostases, altars, and roadside chapels. Folk artists did not have a clear iconographic scheme for their representation in sculpture, so the images were quite diverse. The angels from the church in the village of Murovane form an unconventional group, united by the manner of execution – the heavy lower part of the figures. One of the angels sits on a console, his naked body covered by a long loincloth. The sculpture is carved from a single piece of wood. The anatomical discrepancy can be seen in the figure’s proportions: the hands are too small in relation to the roughened body, and the legs are heavy and massive. The head is defined by short hair, decorated with carvings and tilted to the right. https://collection-lvivgallery.org.ua/en
