Terracotta figurine of Hermes Kriophoros or the ‘ram-bearer’. The god is standing and holding a ram across his shoulders, holding the animal’s legs with both arms. Hermes is depicted naked. The object is broken at the left foot. It has a pale orange fabric. Previously part of the Hilton Price collection (number 3314), which was sold at auction in 1911 (lot 766). It was purchased by the dealers J. E. & E. K. Preston, before becoming part of the Kent collection. It was later bequeathed to Harrogate Museum in 1968. The Hilton Price catalogue lists the object as coming from the Fayum while the Kent catalogue erroneously lists it as coming from Bubastis. Terracotta figures like this date to the Graeco-Roman Period. For a similar figure, possibly from the same mould, see British Museum EA1926,0930.44 (https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/G_1926-0930-44).
