More model information

The figurehead of a gentleman in his military uniform with Royal insignia comes from the HMS “Prince of Wales” built in the early 19th century.

Sadly, by the time she was completed, technology had overtaken her, making her obsolete and the Royal Navy made the decission not to commision the vessel.

Instead, she was converted into a training ship for officer cadets and renamed HMS “Britannia” - the forerunner for today’s Dartmouth Naval College.

When the college eventually moved to the shore the figurehead was removed and brought to HMS “Graham” which was stationed on the Clyde as Royal Navy Reserve Base.

When this closed, the Admiralty placed the figurehead on loan to the Scottish Maritime Museum.
