A thousand years ago people we refer to as Mississippian made artwork in the dark zone of Devilstep Hollow Cave. Images were drawn and carved on to the cave wall. The final image in Devilstep is this representation of a woodpecker. Woodpeckers were often represented in Mississippian era artwork.
